Maria Elena Gutierrez

PRINCIPAL

Bringing a business-focused perspective from her background in finance and management, Maria Elena leads Chora’s business and fundraising planning practice. Maria Elena worked for Lehman Brothers and McKinsey & Co. and headed the Investor Relations Department of one of Latin America’s largest companies before joining the Smithsonian in 2002. Maria Elena holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Yale University.

Robert “Sully” Sullivan

PRINCIPAL

Sully has over 50 years of experience in museum, non-profit, and organizational management, programming, and fundraising. He has led Chora’s strategic planning practice for the past 15 years. From 1991 to 2006, he served as Associate Director at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, where he managed all aspects of public programs, including exhibitions, education, and national outreach. Before that, he directed the New York State Museum in Albany and the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Sully holds a graduate degree in management of non-profit organizations from the University of Rochester. His academic research interests and extensive leadership and management experience have made him a highly regarded authority in the museum field.
